Detailed Information

Go adventuring along the Lewis & Clark Trail at multiple sites through Cass County. Begin your journey just north of Plattsmouth at the Schilling Wildlife Management Area. The Corps of Discovery passed the mouth of the Platte River on July 21, 1804, which the men discovered had a much faster current than the Missouri River. This gave them “great difficulty in passing around the Sand at the mouth of this River.” The confluence of the Platte and Missouri Rivers is best seen here, offering visitors an impressive vista of this once-treacherous confluence.

Head west to Louisville and rent a canoe from Platte River Rentals. They provide shuttle service to Louisville State Recreation Area located on the south bank of the Platte River where canoe can be dropped in the water. A canoe campsite is also available.

Nearby Platte River State Park offers fabulous Platte River viewscapes and some of the best bike trails in the area.

Complete your adventure by enjoying a delicious meal while overlooking the Platte River at Carl’s at Mahoney, located in the 690-acre Eugene T. Mahoney State Park. The park also features a 70-foot observation tower, fishing, hiking and other activities.
