The home of Bess Streeter Aldrich, one of Nebraska’s finest writers. She recreated in her short stories and novels the ups and downs of small town living in hopes that her readers would understand the hardships and struggles of the times, but also see the virtues and hopes that became a part of these prairie times in the Midwest. The Aldrichs moved to Elmwood in 1909 and built the house in 1922.

The Bess Streeter Aldrich Gardens have been beautifully preserved and updated. Twelve garden spaces named after Mrs. Aldrich’s books, nearly 20 trees labeled by species, a beautiful 30′ wedding pergola, and privacy fencing create an intimate space for garden events including weddings, the renewal of vows, and other family gatherings.
